How To Increase Your Productivity In The Workplace

how to increase productivity workplace office efficiency

Have you ever sat staring daggers at the clock at the end of the day and wondering where the day went? Ever felt dejected and apprehensive because you didn’t finish your tasks, meaning you now have to work overtime to catch up? Don't be hard on yourself if you have as this is extremely common, most people do not think to manage their time and then struggle to keep up due to the lack of order. There are two ways in which you can get results; either work longer or work smarter. We always try to go with the second option.

This is a list of ways to help with productivity in the workplace and will help you know where to start. Try incorporating these character traits and tips to increase your output and help you work smarter!

One Step At A Time

Try not to multitask; it is a good idea to focus on one thing at a time. You will be surprised to find that you actually complete it faster with the absence of distractions.

Take It Easy

It is easy to assume that working longer hours leads to getting more done, but the truth is we never work well when we are burned out. Studies have shown that taking a break every now and then helps increase concentration as well as keeps your mood elevated. Get a breath of fresh air or grab a cup of coffee to give yourself a quick rest.

Set Out Tasks

If you write the entirety of your goal on your to-do list, it can be stressful as you only see the entirety of the workload, rather than the small manageable tasks that make up the project. If you break up your goals into the various tasks, you increase your feeling of control as you tick off each aspect and methodically complete your goal.

Follow The "Two-Minute Rule."

Following this rule will allow you to make the most of small pockets of time you have in your schedule. The idea behind the rule is that if you find a task in your to-do list that you know can be completed in two minutes or less, you do it immediately. Completing this task immediately takes less time as you do not have to get back to it later on when you could be doing something else.

Is Human Contact Absolutely Necessary?

Meetings are definitely one of the most time-consuming activities within a workday, despite knowing this we continue to arrange them and subsequently complain about them. The truth is, the majority of these are unnecessary and the aspects mentioned within them can be tackled remotely, over the phone, email or Skype. It is worth asking yourself before arranging your next meeting if human interaction is absolutely necessary.

We hope that these few pointers can help you get started on your journey toward smarter working. There is no such thing as a perfect day, not every day will be 100% productive, and that’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up over it, as long as you have a plan and utilize these tips in your own way, you will at least see an improvement in your work output. Remember to work smarter and not longer.

Downtime Bonus After Work

After a long and hard day at the office, you are definitely deserving of some downtime. If you’re looking to escape reality for a little while and claim your bonus after a productive day, switch on your computer for a reason other than to work and enjoy some downtime surfing the net.
